The Great Escape is another main quest in Novigrad in The Witcher 3.
Your task is to help Yennefer rescue Margarita from the prison controlled by witch hunters.
Here’s a walkthrough of The Great Escape in Witcher 3.
Suggested level: 28 and above.
Talk to Yennefer
To begin the quest, find Yennefer in the tavern.
She’ll ask you about choosing to go after Imlerith. Tell her it’s Ciri’s idea and she won’t be mad.
She’ll also tell you that she’s waiting for a runaway.
Catch the runaway
Next, you need to catch the runaway, someone who once escaped from that prison. Just chase after him and when you’re close enough, talk to him to trigger the cutscene.
Ask Zoltan for help (optional)
You can ask Zoltan for help first, but he won’t be a good choice as he’s a dwarf. In the end, he doesn’t help.
Meet Yennefer at the bridge
If you skip Zoltan, it should be fine. Just head over to the bridge into Oxenfurt.
You’ll see her waiting in front of a building.
Follow Yennefer to the well
She’ll lead you to the well that goes to prison.
Jump into the well.
Search the ruins
Once you’re inside, use your witcher senses to look for clues.
Keep going until you come across a Grave Hag. Kill the Grave Hag first.
Near the monster, you will find a lever for the door but it’s not complete.
Find the missing part
To find the missing part, just go around the area and use your witcher senses. There’s one path where you need to swim a little and it’s quite narrow.
You should be able to see it after going past the water.
Pick up the part and go back to the lever near the grave hag earlier. Use it and open the door.
Enter the sewers
Next, keep going until you see a brittle wall. Use Aard to blast it open.
After entering the sewers, you will immediately encounter some monsters.
Find the sorceress Margarita
Look for the sorceress. You may need to climb up through the broken wall.
There will be two witch hunters here. Take them out first.
Pick up the sewer key at the table nearby.
Continue going and you need to head upstairs. You will find more cells here, and there will be a couple of witch hunters.
Margarita is in one of the cells. Go near and a cutscene will trigger.
Get the key from the warden
To free Margarita, you need to get the key from the warden.
Go upstairs and you will reach an open area. Here, there’ll be more than 10 witch hunters. The warden’s place is at the higher floor.
Kill the warden and pick up the key from his body.
Open the cell
Go back to Margarita and open the cell.
Yennefer appears and takes Margarita away.
Leave the prison and the quest ends.
