The Battle of Kaer Morhen is a main quest in The Witcher 3.
Your task is to group up with the rest of your allies and defend against the Wild Hunt.
Here’s a walkthrough of The Battle of Kaer Morhen in The Witcher 3.
Suggested level: 24 and above.
Begin the council
After the cutscenes, head to Kaer Morhen keep. You can speak to the allies who came.
Enter the keep and begin the council.
Choices to be made
During the council, you have some choices.
The first one is choosing between witchers’ traps and the potions. The traps are explosive traps and only affects the Wild Hunt.
If you choose potions, you will get a Superior Swallow and Thunderbolt.
The second choice is between patching up the wall and clearing the armory.
If you patch up the wall, there’ll be less waves of monsters. If you choose to clear the armory, witchers are armed with shiny silver swords.
It all depends on your preference.
Exit the keep
When you’re ready, exit the keep as you prepare to go to the woods with Lambert.
Close the portals in the woods
After the arrival of the Wild Hunt, you need to close the portals in the woods. There are 3 portals in total.
You have invisibility if you don’t fight.
The portals’ locations are shown in the map.
To close the portal easily, just throw a dimeritium bomb at the portal, or use Yrden.
Stay away from the hounds to avoid detection. The best way is to go from behind.
After the portal closes, your invisibility disappears and you need to kill the Wild Hunt warriors and hounds.
Continue the same process for the two other portals.
More Wild Hunt soldiers will appear and as Geralt gives a signal to Triss to use her fireballs, she didn’t respond.
Run to Triss
Now, you’ll need to control Ciri. You have to help Triss.
Go towards her and kill the Wild Hunt monsters in the area.
Return to Kaer Morhen
Triss then resumes her duty in shooting fireballs. You have to return to Kaer Morhen with Lambert.
Close the main gate
Once you’re inside, you have to close the main gate. Climb up the stairs.
You can ignore the enemies first. Just head to the gate.
Use the lever to close it.
Help Lambert
Next, help Lambert to defeat the Hunt’s warriors. Watch out for his health.
Retreat to the middle courtyard
The next objective is to go back to the middle courtyard.
Defeat opponents and retreat behind main gate
Once you’re in the mid courtyard, take out the opponents here.
There’ll be more portals here. Use dimeritium bombs or Yrden to close them.
After securing the area, retreat behind the gate.
The gate will be closed as Eskel is occupied with some Hunt warriors.
Get to Triss
You’ll need to head towards Triss and help her.
Defeat the Hunt’s warriors and close the portals.
Defeat Caranthir’s warriors
Ciri will appear to help Eskel fight against the Wild Hunt. As Ciri, you need to defeat the Caranthir’s warriors first.
Once they’re gone, go to the gate and open it for the rest to enter.
Close more portals and defeat the warriors
Back to Geralt. You’ll then have to continue fighting.
More portals will appear and you have to close it with dimeritium / Yrden.
You can pick up more dimeritium bombs left by Vesemir.
Close the portals before fighting as it will stop new waves of enemies.
Cutscenes (spoilers)
From here on, it’s purely cutscenes. Geralt and Eskel gets frozen by the arrival of the Wild Hunt top officers. This is after Yennefer’s magic barrier stops working.
Ciri gets surrounded and Vesemir tries to stop the Wild Hunt but ends up getting killed himself.
Ciri in a rage unleashes her power and kills most of the Wild Hunt warriors, forcing the top officers to retreat.
Avallac’h uses his powers to stop Ciri from destroying everything.
After the battle, there will be a funeral for Vesemir and the quest ends here.
