The King Is Dead – Long Live The King is a main quest in Skellige in Witcher 3.
Your task is to join Yennefer to attend the king’s wake at Kaer Trolde keep.
Here’s a walkthrough of The King Is Dead – Long Live The King in The Witcher 3.
Suggested level: 16 and above.
Put on formal attire
Your first objective is to change to a formal attire. Head to Yennefer’s room.
You’ll find quite a couple of stuff to examine in the room.
The Skellige clothes can be found in the room as well. Change to it first.
Meet Yennefer at the entrance to the keep
To get to the keep, you need to take the elevator.
Interact with the lever and you have to wait for the elevator to come down. Get on it and interact with it to go up.
You should then see Yennefer at the bridge.
Go to the wake
Follow Yennefer to the wake.
Should you drink or not?
Choosing to drink at the wake (or not) may not affect the outcome of the quest.
It probably only affects the conversations and some extra things you can do during the wake.
Race with Cerys
During the wake, you can choose to race with Cerys to the top of the mountain.
You just have to follow the route to beat her.
At the peak, pull Hjalmar’s axe out of the stump and you’re done.
Follow Yennefer
After the race, follow Yennefer.
You’ll be stopped by some drunkards. Depending on your choices in the conversation, you can pick a fight with one of them.
It’s a punching match.
Look for Ermion’s lab
Yennefer will reveal her real interest in this place. She wants to find a mask hidden in Ermion’s lab.
Follow her.
To enter the workshop, go through the side of the room.
Explore the room
Inside the workshop, look for a way to the next room.
Interact with the door.
Defeat the aggressive beasts
While opening the door, you get cut and will then be hallucinating. Defeat the beasts that ‘come to life’.
After beating the beasts, you’ll faint and get woken up by Yennefer.
Look for the hidden room
In the next area, there’ll be more clues. The mask isn’t here yet.
You need to find a way to open the hidden room.
Pick up the items in the room. The one you need is called a ‘mead’. Place the mead on the hand of the statue and the door will open.
(Mini Boss) – Kill the earth elemental
In the next room, you’ll need to defeat the earth elemental.
You can avoid it by dodging to the side. Use your spell to slow it down.
“Choke and die” or “I wanna kiss you“
If you choose the second option, you’ll teleport back to Yennefer’s room. The first option simply leads back to the wake.
We chose the second option “I wanna kiss you” and it unlocks the famed unicorn romance scene.
The quest ends after the cutscenes.
