The Forest is a survival game that can be played alone or with a big group of friends.
To survive, you’ll need to make a base for sure as there’ll be mutants around the map.
They will attack you both day and night, more aggressively during the latter.
Here are some of the best locations for setting up a base in The Forest.
By the sea
One possible base location is at the beach / by the sea.
You’ll be able to get food from turtles and other sea creatures, so you won’t run out of food so often.
The downside is that you can’t drink water directly from the sea. You’ll need a source of fresh water.
One way is to build a water collector. A water collector requires 1 turtle shell and four sticks. Luckily, turtle shells are abundant here.
Once it rains, you can drink from the water collector easily.
It’s good as a base because you won’t be surrounded by mutants at night, as compared to in the forest.
When you use the sea as your back, you only need to make walls and traps facing one direction, and it requires less resources.
You can also build a cabin on the water and use a dock to connect to the beach, making it easier to handle mutants that come your way.
The other downside is that it’s harder to get logs and other resources for construction, as the trees are further away.
Near a fresh water source
Another possible base location is inside the forest, but near a fresh water source.
If you build your base near a lake or pond, you can drink water without building a water collector.
You can also wash yourself from the blood of mutants to prevent infection easily, similar to the sea.
The downside is that you’ll need to build protection all around as mutants can come from any corner.
On another island
If you walk far enough, you’ll find another island with no mutants because it’s separated by water.
The obvious advantage is that you’ll not be pestered by mutants in your base.
The obvious disadvantage is that getting resources will become harder as you’re separated by water. You’ll need to get a raft and continuously transport materials which is a big hassle.
