Recap of episode 12 of ‘Was It Love’
The episode began with a flashback to the past which revealed Dae-o’s side of the story.
He went back to his parent’s house and found his drunk father who blamed him for not choosing another career.
His father who lost a lot due to a scam was angry with Dae-o for taking up writing which apparently doesn’t pay the bills.
Dae-o’s mother tried to stop them from fighting and asked him to leave.
As he left the house, he read Ae-jung’s message, saying she loves his writing, making Dae-o sad. Due to his family’s situation, he had to take up extra jobs to pay the bills including working at the restaurant. He however did not tell Ae-jung about it.
Dae-o then recalled what happened in the past and what made their relationship sour. He also had a present for Ae-jung on the day they quarreled and it looked like a ring box or something similar to it.
Back in the present day, Ae-jung, Hyang-ja, Dae-o, Koo Pa-do and Ha-nee all learnt about the news that Ryu-jin may be Ha-nee’s father, which we (the viewers) know is not true by now. Ae-jung and Dae-o separately took a cab to head to Ha-nee’s school to check on the latter.
In the classroom, Ha-nee’s classmates all read the news and started teasing her. She stormed out of the class out of anger.
Yeon-woo who was teaching students outdoor also became aware of the news and looked for Ha-nee.
Ae-jung then manages to bump into Ha-nee near the school gate. Ha-nee who is clearly sad and angry claims that she knew Ryu-jin is her father, and left angrily.
Dae-o who has been following Ha-nee quietly finally finds Ha-nee crying in an alley.
He couldn’t do much except try to comfort her as she doesn’t know his real identity yet. They talked for a bit before she left, not knowing he is her father.
Dae-o continued following her and saw her enter Sook-hee’s bar instead. Sook-hee who knows Dae-o’s true identity talked to him for a bit, indirectly giving him advice saying Ha-nee needs her father to talk to her.
Ae-jung who is upset went to confront Ryu-jin at the stuntman training center. Ryu-jin and his manager were both also surprised by the news. He finally told his manager that he is not Ha-nee’s father. The manager gets upset because Ryu-jin threw his career away over a girl who is not his real daughter.
Ryu-jin then left to confront Ms. Song at the agency.
He started scolding Ms. Song but the latter said that it was his fault for all of this; that he couldn’t protect anyone. He left his Hollywood career because of a child that wasn’t his.
In the next scene, Ae-jung is seen walking around in a daze. She had a flashback to the past when she was seeing the gynecologist. She read the book on Yeon-woo and herself, where in one of the pages, it’s stated that the child should be Ha-nee for a girl and Ha-neul for a boy.
Later, Joo A-rin is seen with Bo-hye (Yeon-woo’s mother). They talked about Yeon-woo who likes Ae-jung, and Yeon-woo then showed up to talk to his mother.
He then knelt down and begged his mother to deal with articles relating to Ae-jung and Ha-nee as he pitied them.
Yeon-woo then had a flashback to 2005 when he was a basketball player who intended to go pro. He however suffered an injury that ended his career permanently. Ae-jung visited him at the hospital and brought all kinds of food including jokbal.
Yeon-woo who was depressed with the situation told Ae-jung he has nothing to live for, and the latter scolded him for that thought. Ae-jung says that he can have more than one dream in life as he’s still young. She then took the food away and asked him to rethink his life. This incident was probably what led Yeon-woo to really like Ae-jung as a person, as she gave him hope when things were bad.
Back in the present, A-rin talks to Yeon-woo about Ae-jung, asking why he likes her despite being rich and good-looking. He explains that Ae-jung gave him hope in life when things were in despair, and A-rin can probably understand him because of how Dae-o helped her in the past.
Ha-nee then comes back and heard a television segment about her mother and the scandal. She gets angry but later hears her grandmother complaining to the broadcasting station about the program.
Ha-nee then left the house to get some air. Ae-jung who came back home took her for dinner. Ha-nee then tells her mother that she is grateful for everything her mother has done over the years. She puts the blame on her real father for abandoning them.
Ha-nee also explained how she contacted Ryu-jin in the first place, thinking he was her father. She still believes that Ryu-jin is her father and that her mother is lying to her to protect her.
Ae-jung then makes a decision to call for a board meeting with Koo Pa-do, Dae-o and Ryu-jin to sort things out the next day.
In the meantime, Dae-o meets up with his lawyer to discuss possible ways to counter the article posted online.
His lawyer advised that he should either get a DNA test or have Ha-nee’s real father show up. Ryu-jin later shows up at the office and they insulted each other for not being able to protect Ae-jung and Ha-nee.
The next morning, Ha-nee received plenty of messages from her classmate, asking her for favors as her dad is apparently Ryu-jin. She ignored them all except Dong-chan and told him that she is not going to school. Her grandmother however forced her to go to school and pretend everything’s normal.
At the office, Pa-do, Dae-o and Ryu-jin meets again with Ae-jung to discuss how to counter Ssong Entertainment. The article was posted by a blogger (Mr. Na) who was bribed by Ms. Song.
As part of the plan, Koo Pa-do with his gang went to the company that’s paying for the advertisements to take them down.
Mr. Na who found out that the advertisements were taken down was mad with Ms. Song, thinking she tricked him. In the next part of the plan, Ae-jung asked Mr. Wang (the previous CEO of Thumb Film) to act like a potential advertiser. He met up with Mr. Na and secretly recorded their conversation.
Dae-o who took the recording, spoke to Mr. Na and they changed the article to say that Ms. Song was the one who maliciously asked for the article.
Ae-jung put up her bad-ass look and then confronted Ms. Song at the agency. She twisted Ms. Song’s arm when the latter started berating her.
In the next scene, Ryu-jin spoke to the press and confirmed that he was not Ha-nee’s father.
In the meantime, Ha-nee at school then learns about the press conference. Her classmates started teasing her about the situation.
The same boy who she punched in an earlier episode (Chan-yeong) started teasing her about her mother. She gets angry and wanted to punch the boy again but Dong-chan threw milk at them from behind. They then got into a group fight with some hair pulling but the boys couldn’t pull Dong-chan’s hair as he is almost bald.
Meanwhile, Ae-jung who sees the press conference (and the scandal being corrected) almost collapses from exhaustion over this whole issue. Dae-o then holds her from falling and later asks her to give him a second chance like before.
She then gets a call about Ha-nee at school.
The boy ended up with nose bleed again as Ae-jung is summoned to school for the fight. The boy’s parents again started blaming Ae-jung for Ha-nee’s upbringing. As always, Yeon-woo defends Ha-nee and the other teacher (Jang) defends Chan-yeong.
Ha-nee pushes Chan-yeong’s father for insulting her mother, asking them to apologize. Mr. Jang gets angry and grabs Ha-nee’s arm. Dae-o suddenly appears and grabs Mr. Jang’s hand instead and asks him to let go of Ha-nee.
After being asked who he is, he then reveals that he is Ha-nee’s father.
