Episode 10 of the first season of Netflix Original’s Extracurricular has ended on a dark note and fans are wanting more.
At the time of writing, the second season of the show has not been renewed yet but we should get news soon.
Here’s a recap and explanation of episode 10 / ending of the drama series Extracurricular.
Recap of ending (episode 10)
The episode begins with a flashback of Mr.Lee talking to his friend before leaving for Banana Club.
After the intro, we’re back to the present time where Kitae and his group of thugs are at the police station.
They were arrested for causing havoc at Banana Club. During this time, the group also learns that Kitae called them because he thought Min-Hee did compensated dating at Banana Club.
In the next scene, Jisoo is back at his house with Gyuri and the latter suggests that they continue the business.
Jisoo who is traumatized by all of the consequences clearly did not agree and Gyuri left with the work phone as she has her own plan.
Later, we see Haegyeong (police officer) speaking to Min-Hee again after learning about the compensated dating.
She also broke news that Mr. Lee did not survive the fight.
Back in school, everyone is aware now that Min-Hee did compensated dating and verbally abused her when she arrived.
Even her friends turned on her.
After class, Jisoo follows Min-Hee who was upset, and the latter told him that Mr. Lee already passed on.
It was the first time Jisoo actually heard about Mr. Lee after the Banana Club incident.
We then learn why Gyuri took the phone. She used the voice clip from Taerim (Group B trainee) doing compensated dating.
She used that to blackmail her parents into giving her money as spreading the voice recording would mean a disaster for their entertainment company and the investments.
In the next scene, we see Jisoo having some weird dreams between him, Mr. Cho, Min-Hee and Mr. Lee’s voice. His conscience probably led to those dreams as he felt guilty for Mr. Lee’s death.
Jisoo later meets Bae Gyuri at the riverside and Gyuri tells him of her plan.
She bought a one-way ticket to Sydney as she now has money from her parents. She asks Jisoo to follow her to Sydney but he refused.
In the next scene, police officer Haegyeong was asked to return the phones of students back to the school, and upon reaching, one of the phones started tracking ‘Areung‘.
It was the mobile device used to track Gyuri when she took the money from Dae-Yeol. She follows the mobile device and eventually reaches the Counselling Office where Gyuri hid the money.
It is implied at first that she found the money hidden in the couch.
She and the dean of the school went to the classroom where Jisoo is and talked to the teacher, Mr. Cho. Haegyeong asked him to go to the police station as he’s the one who usually stays in the room.
Jisoo ran off to the Counselling Office and found the couch fully ransacked.
In the next scene, we see Kitae and Min-Hee talking. He told Min-Hee that he found the cap that she gave for his birthday at the Banana Club.
Min-Hee at this point suspects Jisoo since he is the one who took the cap.
Later, Kitae visited Banana Club again and spoke to Mijung. She told Kitae who the real pimp was (off-screen).
Min-Hee later requests to speak to Jisoo as she wanted to ask why he was at the Banana Club.
Jisoo broke down and confessed that he did it, trying to spare Gyuri from the blame. She recorded the conversation quietly.
Jisoo who overheard Min-Hee replaying the conversation tries to stop her from spreading it, as he wanted to protect Gyuri.
They tussled for the phone and Min-Hee fell down the stairs, knocking her head, with a lot of bleeding seen. At this point, we’re not sure if she’s dead but the ambulance came to get her.
Jisoo then took her phone and ran off.
As Jisoo reached his house, he sees Kitae already inside.
Kitae already knew that Jisoo and Gyuri were the ones behind the prostitution ring.
He then calls Min-Hee to tell her but the phone was in Jisoo’s pocket and it was ringing.
Kitae snatched the phone and sees that the phone was covered in blood, assuming something bad happened to Min-Hee.
Jisoo immediately smashes an object on Kitae’s head but it hardly worked. Kitae took a scissors and stabbed Jisoo a few times, but Gyuri came from behind and smashed Kitae’s head with a glass object. Kitae lost consciousness and Gyuri took Jisoo to escape.
The duo stopped at the staircase for some time as Jisoo was badly injured.
We then see Haegyeong arriving at Jisoo’s house but Kitae already left. She also saw the blood trail and followed it. As she reached the staircase, they were already gone.
The episode then ended showing someone pouring water into the aquarium where Jisoo’s pet crab is.
Is Jisoo dead?
The ending does not show who poured water into the aquarium. It could be either of them, or it could be Gyuri alone, assuming Jisoo died from the injuries or was arrested.
At this point, everyone should know that the two of them were involved with the prostitution ring.
Jisoo at this condition is unlikely to have gotten off to Australia without treatment, and even if he does get treatment, they may be blocked at the immigration by the time news got out.
An alternative is to leave illegally (like in the drama Vagabond) but all of this is a bit far off.
We’ll know for sure if there’s a season 2.
