In Hogwarts Legacy, you’ll encounter a couple of doors around the Hogwarts school that is locked behind a puzzle.
These doors have beast / animal symbols around them and if you choose to reveal, you’ll see a number puzzle.
You will also see a button on each side of the door that can be flipped. The button represents the animal / beast and it’s needed to solve the puzzle.
Here’s how you can solve the door puzzle with numbers in Hogwarts Legacy.
You need the Arithmancy Study Guide Page
To solve the door puzzle, you will first need the Arithmancy Study Guide Page. The page will allocate a number to each of the animal / beast that you see.
Without it, you’re just blindly guessing.
To get the Arithmancy Study Guide Page, you need to first travel to the bridge shown in the map below, marked by the “X” in red.
You can use the Library Annex to get there.
The bridge should look like the one in the image below.
Now, look for the side with a door as shown in the image below.
Go through the door and turn right up the stairs.
Continue to use the spiraling staircase up one floor.
Look to your right and you’ll see a few steps. Go up the steps and look left. Proceed ahead on the wooden floorboard area.
Look to your right and you’ll see the door puzzle.
Near the door, there’s a chest which gives you the Arithmancy Study Guide Page.
Open the page and you’ll see the numbers allocated to each beast / animal.
How to solve the door puzzle
With the numbers, you can now solve the door puzzle. Reveal the puzzle and you’ll see the numbers.
The one in the middle of the triangle is the total of all three sides. This applies to both top and bottom triangles.
For e.g. in the puzzle below, 9 is the total and has the numbers 2, “?” and a hydra. Based on the guide, hydra is 3, which means 9 – 2 – hydra (3) = 4. For this door, the single question mark’s answer is 4 and you need to choose the beast symbol which represents 4 on the guide.
Similarly, for the double question marks, the total is 4 – 0 – 1 = 3. In the guide, 3 = hydra. So you need to flip the button for double question marks to hydra.
Flip both buttons correctly and open the door.
The same is done with all the puzzles. For this particular door puzzle, you’ll be led into a room with two more puzzles.
Do the same thing to unlock both doors and claim the chests inside them.
