The Caretaker’s Lunar Lament is a main story quest in Hogwarts Legacy.
Your objective is to help Gladwin Moon obtain all the Demiguise Moon.

To begin the quest, find Gladwin Moon at the marked area on the map.
He’ll then ask you to collect the Demiguise Moon.
Follow Gladwin
Next, follow Gladwin as he brings you to the destination.
Learn Alohomora
Gladwin will teach you the spell Alohomora to open locks in the school.
How to open the level 1 lock
Use Alohomora to unlock the door.
You’ll then need to learn the mechanism of how it works. You will control the green and red orbs.
What you need to do is to turn the green one and wait until the gear on the bottom right is lit and moves.
Once the green moves, hold the green button at the exact position.
Then, move the red orb until you see the two small gears rotating inside the circle. Hold that position until it’s done. Both green and red have to be at the correct positions.
Retrieve the Demiguise Moon in the Prefect’s Bathroom
The first Demiguise Moon is at the Prefect’s Bathroom. As you head up the stairs, you’ll see a guy standing there. You can distract him if you wish to open the locked doors and get the chest which is optional.
Otherwise, just avoid him and go upstairs. You’ll see Weasley and Sharp talking.
Avoid them and head upstairs. Eventually, you’ll reach a statue and another guy standing watch. Distract him away and enter the Prefect’s Bathroom.
Inside, you’ll see three people. Go to the left side and get the Demiguise Moon.
Retrieve the Demiguise Moon in the Hospital Wing
Continue your way up until the Hospital Wing.
There are three people talking. Wait for one to enter the room on the side.
With two left, sneak past them.
Return the Demiguise Moons to Gladwin
Leave the area using the same path. You can slowly walk behind the two ladies from the Hospital Wing all the way back to Gladwin.
The quest ends after talking to Gladwin Moon.
