Gordon Ramsay Bar & Grill is the first restaurant opened in Malaysia by Ramsay.
We tried the food sometime ago and this review is delayed for almost a year.
Here’s a short review of Gordon Ramsay Bar & Grill in Sunway Resort Hotel, Malaysia.
Review of Gordon Ramsay Bar & Grill
One thing’s for sure, the ambience of this fine dining restaurant is one of the best in Malaysia. As you walk in, you’ll be greeted by the waiter and depending on whether you made a reservation, you may need to wait awhile.
The portrait of Ramsay himself definitely stands out in the restaurant. This place was also built on the newly renovated Sunway Resort Hotel and is just grandeur all over. What this means is that you’re likely paying for it through the food.
After making an order, you’ll be given warm bread with butter. The bread was soft and the butter was premium.
Starters
For starters, we ordered a few dishes. The first one was the Arnold Bennett Twice-baked Souffle.
This dish was recommended by a lot of people on social media. We tried it and it did have a unique texture but in terms of taste, it was just alright for myself.
We also ordered the Seared Scallops. This one was cooked really well and was delicious but the portion’s small for the price.
There’s also the Caesar Salad which came with anchovies. There’s nothing much to say about this other than it tastes just as expected. For the price point, I wouldn’t order this again.
For the sides, we ordered one Classic Mac and Cheese. My memory might be fuzzy by now but I think it was quite good.
Mains
For the mains, we ordered the Tortellini which came with pumpkin, ricotta, winter truffle and walnut. The presentation and taste were on point, but the dish itself is tiny.
We also ordered the most popular dish here, i.e. the Classic Beef Wellington. The wellington was pretty decent but our expectations were already too high for this dish.
The pastry and the mushroom duxelle were made well, better than most other places.
One of our favorites were the Lamb Loin. This might have been nicer than the beef wellington.
We also ordered the Boston Lobster Thermidor (half) as part of your main.
The lobster was cooked well and tasted quite alright. There’s nothing much to fault for this but I wouldn’t make this dish a priority. You can get similar lobster dishes elsewhere.
Dessert
As for dessert, we were already pretty full and only ordered two. The first one is the 64% Manjari Chocolate Tart.
This one’s really suitable for those who love a really rich chocolate flavor.
We also ordered the Strawberry Trifle which is strawberry puree, pistachio sponge and vanilla custard, and came out pretty decent.
The entire meal came to around RM1600.
In a nutshell
Gordon Ramsay Bar & Grill truly stands out as far as the ambience and service goes. You also have live music at the venue.
The food itself was delicious but the price would deter most people.
