Fire In The Sky is a main story quest available in Final Fantasy XVI.
Your objective is to infiltrate the Crystalline Dominion to destroy the Mothercrystal.
Here’s a walkthrough and guide of Fire In The Sky in FFXVI.
Find Goetz
The quest begins after the cutscenes of the city on fire.
You’ll need to find Goetz who is supposed to be at the square near the belltower.
Go through the rooftops at first.
Defeat the dragoons along the way.
You’ll then face an elite, i.e. a Dragoon Lancer.
Proceed ahead. Use the lift to go up.
You’ll face more dragoons here.
At one point, an Elite War Aevis will appear. Take this creature down.
Continue ahead and you’ll face a Dragoon Lancer and more dragoons.
There’s a crate after that gives The Favor of Earth (Raging Firsts) accessory.
Slay the White Dragon
Once you’ve reached the square where Goetz is, a White Dragon appears.
You’ll need to slay the White Dragon which uses ice attacks.
This dragon has several moves. One of the tougher moves to dodge is Emanation where it shoots laser beams around the map.
Just keep dodging here.
Continue to fight and do most of your damage while it’s staggered.
When the fight ends, you’ll get a Whitewyrm Bone among other things.
You’ll then see some cutscenes of Bahamut destroying the city.
The heart of the Mothercrystal seems to have taken Bahamut’s power and changed its entire shape.
Head towards the heart of the Mothercrystal
After the cutscene, Goetz will function as a merchant. You can purchase potions from him.
Proceed ahead.
You’ll face Akashic Dragoons at first.
Keep going and you’ll find a crate which gives The Breath of Lightning (Judgment Bolt) accessory.
Continue ahead and defeat the Revenants.
Slay the Undertaker
You’ll now face the Undertaker, which is an elite mob you’ve faced before in a previous quest.
Defeat the Necrophobe
After the Undertaker fight, you have a tougher battle ahead with the Necrophone, a monster summoned by Ultima.
During the fight, you have to watch out for its charging attack. You’ll see Necrophobe gathering energy with the Dark energies swirl bar on the top.
Use all of your abilities to stop the attack.
After the fight, you’ll get The Favor of Earth (Windup) accessory, among other things.
Clive will eventually reach the castle where Empress Emeritus Anabella is.
She then finds out that Joshua is still alive after the latter got knocked down by Bahamut.
Bahamut then attacks them but Clive primes into Ifrit to stop the attack.
Defeat Bahamut
You’ll now need to use Ifrit to defeat Bahamut. This is one of the most epic fights ever.
During the cutscene, the crystal changes shape again and forms an arena.
Bahamut attacks from above but at times will come to the ground. This gives you the change to reach Bahamut to do some melee damage.
You’ll also learn Spitflare which is a flamethrower ability. It does have a cooldown.
Use Splitflare and Brimstone to deal a lot of damage.
After Bahamut’s health loses 1/3, you’ll play as the Phoenix instead in an aerial battle.
During this fight, you need to dodge Bahamut’s attacks like Megaflare. At the same time, you can use fireball / charged fireball or lock on attacks.
Lock on attacks deal good damage.
Bahamut will also do a Gigaflare attack. You need to stop him by destroying the “bubbles” surrounding the middle before the timer runs out.
When his health is at 1/3, you’ll use Ifrit again to finish the job.
This time, using Spitflare is both Ifrit and the Phoenix combined.
When Bahamut charges Terraflare, you have to enter the shield created by the Phoenix within the time limit.
After Bahamut is seemingly defeated, he then swallows the crystal to become much stronger.
To counter this, Ifrit and Phoenix somehow merged into one beast and is called Ifrit Risen.
You’re now on another phase of the battle where you use Ifrit Risen and the abilities are the same as Ifrit.
However, there’s a new ability which allows you to move towards Bahamut quickly.
Ifrit Risen’s attacks are much bigger, cooler and does more damage.
Bahamut uses Terraflare during the fight and the laser beams are much bigger. They can be dodged.
Towards the end, Bahamut uses Zettaflare and Ifrit Risen manages to counter it.
The fight ends here. You’ll gain a Light Shard material among others.
More cutscenes
Ifrit then manages to destroy the Mothercrystal in space.
Dion then throws a spear and kills Emperor Olivier who is Ultima’s puppet. Empress Anabella gets depressed and commits suicide.
Clive then absorbs Dion’s power and gains Bahamut’s ability.
In the meantime, we see Ultima communicating with Barnabas.
Return to the hideaway
Go back to the hideaway to complete the quest.
