Dragon Quest Builders 2 is the latest installment in the DQ Builders series.
This sequel is said to be even better than the first and it’s one of the best sandbox games (with a story).
After you’re done with Khrumbul-Dun and went back to the Isle of Awakening, you’ll be invaded by enemies.
In your escape, you’ll get captured and placed in a prison island called Skelkatraz.
Here’s a walkthrough and guide of Skelkatraz in Dragon Quest Builders 2.

Report for duty
After waking up for the first time in prison, you have to sleep to the next morning.
In the morning, report for duty with the other prisoners. This will be sort of a routine from now on.
Get to the warden and he’ll assign you some work.
Plant some cabbage seeds around the patch.
Get more seeds from the woman nearby.
Plant the remaining seeds on the patch of tilled soil.
Once you’re done, go back to your prison cell. On the way there, you can grab a cabbage from the skeleton guard.
As mentioned, this will be routine, so I’ll try to skip most of these.
Burn the cabbages
The next time, you’ll have to burn the cabbages by lighting the hay on fire.
It’s part of the Children of Hargon’s ways to demotivate you from building.
Once again, talk to the old lady.
Plant seeds again
The next day, you need to plant more cabbage seeds.
Talk to the prisoners
Next, ask the prisoners more on how to escape this place or if they have any clue.
As expected, none of them can help.
Go back to the old lady and ask her whether she knows how to escape.
Make friends with the slime
While talking, a slime appears. She’ll give you a Wrangler’s Ring to make friends with other monsters as well.
She’ll give you a monster munchies. Give it to the slime within 30 seconds and he’ll be your new friend.
Next, sit on this bench and wait till nightfall. This part is also quite routine. Sitting on the bench is usually the way to skip time.
Find the secret door in the cell
Once in the cell, talk to the slime. He’ll ask you to find the secret pathway.
Just use your fist and hit the straw mattress.
Underneath, you’ll find sand blocks which you’re able to punch through.
Go down and you’ll reach another open area. It’s a secret hideout.
Interact with the pot and you’ll find a letter from a prisoner who tried to escape.
This is when the real mission actually starts – Escape from Skelkatraz.
Look for Brownbeard
Next, find a way to go in further. Just punch any sand blocks that are in the way.
Keep on going. You’ll pass through a few spaces.
Finally, you’ll reach the crematorium.
Brownbeard (your captain) is lying down, but he’s not dead unlike the rest.
Talk to him.
After rescuing Brownbeard, you’ll notice a steel door. But it’s locked and you need a key.
Get back to your room
Now, go back to your cell.
You need to use the sand blocks to patch up the hole.
Place the straw mattress back on the sand. Then, just sleep.
Volunteer to work at the crematorium
The next day, talk to Malroth and the old lady more on how to escape.
You’ll need to find a way to the crematorium. A prisoner is about to be asked to go to the crematorium but you have to volunteer instead.
They’ll throw both of you there for duty.
Talk to the guard when you’re at the entrance.
He’ll give you a key. Use it to open the door.
Clear the bones
At the crematorium, you need to clear the bones by breaking them.
Just punch until they break. Try to avoid the fire that comes up every few seconds.
Volunteer for the Hole
The warden also finds out that someone sneaked in a builder’s book in your cell block.
Malroth will volunteer and say that you guys did it.
You will be thrown into the Hole and there’s a huge monster inside.
Quickly, just find any cell to enter and avoid getting hit.
Talk to the hammerhood
There’s a hammerhood inside one of the cells. Talk to him.
The plan is to make friends with him and use his hammer to get out of Skelkatraz.
On the way out of the Hole, you’ll see the chest which contains the key to the cells in the Hole.
Make monster munchies
Next, talk to the old lady. She’ll ask you to make more monster munchies.
You just need frogstool and dry grass to craft it.
Frogstool can be found near the farm where you planted the cabbage seeds. It is also found at the space underneath your bed in the cell, on the way to the crematorium.
As for dry grass, it’s pretty much everywhere. Cook them together on the pan at the old lady’s place.
Make stuffed hammerhood
To deceive the guards, you need to make a stuffed hammerhood as well.
This one can be made using the carpenter’s desk near where the old lady is.
You’ll need grass fibre and cord.
Cord can be found by destroying the creeper plants all around the place.
As for grass fibre, go to the prison farm and destroy some of the fresh grass. They are the greener ones.
Repair the watchtowers
Your next task is to repair the watchtower.
To do so, grab some sand blocks from underneath the tower. Climb up and start patching the gaps.
As you need a view of the Hole’s entrance, talk to the other guard at the next watchtower as well.
Start patching up the gaps as well.
Find a way into the Hole
Once you’re done with the watchtowers, go back to the farm and start talking to other prisoners.
They’ll know more on how to enter the Hole.
How to get the book of blue prints
Also, you can get the book of blue prints from this guy at the farm.
You can place the book near the first watchtower you built.
Get to the Hole
When night comes, dig up your bed again and follow the slime.
He’ll lead you to the entrance of the Hole. Be careful not to get spotted by any skeleton guards along the way.
Otherwise, you’ll have to restart.
At one point, you can use the slime and jump even higher. It’s better to sneak past the guards from up high.
If you can’t cross, just build more blocks.
Keep building blocks until you get to the area above the Hole’s entrance.
From above, dig through the only sand block there, and you’ll get a way to jump down.
Once you’re down here, just stay behind the guard and grab the key from the chest.
Meet the hammerhood
Now, go to the Hole and open the cell door for the hammerhood.
Next, he’ll attack you so you have to defeat him first.
Once again, use your monster munchies to make friends with the hammerhood.
Place the stuffed hammerhood inside the hammerhood’s cell to deceive the guards.
Get back to your cell
Now that you’ve rescued the hammerhood, go back to your cell without being spotted.
At this point, just observe how the skeleton guards move. When they’re looking away, start running.
At one point, you can just go underground to sneak through all the guards.
Once you’re near your cell, avoid the guard by going through the big gap in the wall.
Once you’re back in the cell, place the sand blocks and straw mattress back.
In the next morning, the chief inspector came to your cell. I chose “no” but it probably doesn’t matter.
Make a smashing sign
Next, go to the old lady and make a smashing sign to get the hammerhood to help you.
You can make at least 10 or 20 of them. Just use grass fibre and cord.
Find a way out of Skelkatraz
The next morning, go back down and rescue Malroth. Place the smashing sign on the softer wall.
Similarly, keep doing the same thing as you progress. There’ll be a couple walls to demolish.
In one of the walls, you’ll find a chest that gives you some antidote.
Continue breaking through walls. If you hit a dead end, just break the wall beside it.
Finally, you’ll reach some muddy water. Get up from there.
Defeat the walking corpse
You’ll meet a walking corpse. Take him out.
Make friends with him using the monster munchies. You’ll need all the help you can get.
Defeat the chief inspector
Continue walking until you meet the chief inspector who’s blocking the way.
You’ll have to defeat him and his monsters.
Escape from Skelkatraz
You will get your hammer back once you’ve defeated the chief.
Break through the wall.
Finally, go back to your boat.
