In The Shadow Of The Study is a quest in Hogwarts Legacy related to Dark Arts.
Your objective is to look for the Slytherin Scriptorium with Ominis and Sebastian.
Here’s a walkthrough and guide of In The Shadow of the Study in Hogwarts Legacy.
The suggested level is 16 and the reward is Crucio.
Meet Sebastian outside the Slytherin common room to begin.
Go to the marked spot and press wait for Sebastian to appear.
Go with Sebastian to meet Ominis
Next, follow Sebastian as he brings you to talk to Ominis about the Scriptorium.
Talk to Ominis who is standing nearby.
Open Slytherin’s door
After convincing Ominis, you have to open Slytherin’s door which has three lit symbols on it.
To open the door, you simply need to light three of the braziers around you; two on the left and one on the right.
Use a fire spell like Confringo or Incendio.
Explore beyond the doorway
In the next area, you can explore around. Use Revelio to find items you can collect, including Noctua Gaunt’s notes.
Noctua is Ominis’ aunt who died finding the Scriptorium.
You can then use Reparo to bring the rubble back into a decoration.
Find a way through (Slytherin locks)
You will then notice a Slytherin lock. The symbols on the right side of the lock is the answer.
When you use the lock, you need to match the symbols according to the door. If you fail to do so before the time is up, you will get bit by the snake and lose a bit of HP.
Go through the unlocked door and you’ll find another lock. Like before, look at the symbol on the door and follow it.
Head back to the starting point and you’ll see another door.
On the left of it, you can crawl under into a room.
For the room inside, use the symbol on the door just outside to open it.
You will then unlock the door.
Go through and you’ll find more notes and chests.
Continue ahead until you reach the door with many snakes on it. There’s words on the floor which says Crucio.
Talk to Sebastian about it.
Talk to Ominis
After learning how it works, ask Ominis to cast Crucio if possible. During the talk, Ominis will reject it.
Talk to Sebastian again
Speak with Sebastian again.
This time, you’re given options:
- choose to not learn the Cruciatus Curse;
- learn the Cruciatus Curse but ask Sebastian to cast it on you; or
- learn the Cruciatus Curse and cast it on Sebastian.
I chose the middle option. Learn Crucio here.
As I chose Sebastian to cast in on my character, he will lose a lot of health and be in pain for awhile.
Search Slytherin’s Scriptorium
You will now be granted access to the Scriptorium. Search the area for items.
Give the book you found to Sebastian.
Leave the Scriptorium
Finally, you can leave the Scriptorium using the statue at the back.
The quest ends after you listen to what Ominis has to say.
