Payback is a side quest available in Final Fantasy XVI.
Your objective is to help Gaute deliver overdue debts to three persons.

To begin the quest, read the Missives in Clive’s chambers.
Talk to Gaute at the mess.
Deliver the star ruby to Martha and Isabelle
You’ll need to deliver star rubies to Martha and Isabelle.
Find Martha at her tavern in Martha’s Rest.
Next, look for Isabelle at her place in Northreach.
Return to Gaute
Go back to the hideaway to speak with Gaute.
Deliver the star ruby to Charon
Finally, deliver the star ruby to Charon to settle the overdue debt.
Talk to Otto
After you’re done, Otto will speak with Clive.
You’ll get a longer cutscene which shows how much Otto misses Cid and how their friendship started.
The quest ends here. You’ll get Cid’s Goblet which is displayed in Clive’s chambers.
