Out of the Shadow is a main story quest in Final Fantasy XVI.
Your objective is to help Mid build a ship with mythril engine.

Speak with Otto
First thing to do is to find Otto at the mess.
Talk to Vivian
Next, speak with Vivian.
Talk to Charon, Blackthorne and Harpocrates
You will then need to speak with three people, i.e. Charon, Blackthorne and Harpocrates.
When you’re at Blackthorne’s you should check out the new Enhancer+1 which can be crafted with the Earthen Fury you received from Titan.
Speak with Otto
After talking to all 3, go back to Otto.
Speak with Mid
Next, find Mid at her workshop.
She’ll then ask you to talk to Blackthorne about her plan to make a ship.
Letting Off Steam 1
The first sub-quest Letting Off Steam 1 begins.
You can choose between Otto and Gav to go for the assignment.
Head to the river south of the Velkroy as marked in the map below.
You’ll see Gav waiting in front of a house near the river.
Then, head to the riverside to collect stardust.
Return to Gav to deliver the stardust when you’re done.
Now, go back to Blackthorne to deliver the stardust.
The sub-quest ends here.
Report back to Mid
Go back to Mid to report back.
Then, talk to Helena the engineer just beside Mid.
Letting Off Steam 2
The second sub-quest Letting Off Steam 2 begins.
Make for Laubert’s Pass using Lostwing’s travel point.
You’ll meet Helena and her crew there.
You will need to slay the Ahriman which is in the area.
Just watch out for the Doom attack which can kill you instantly.
Whenever you get inflicted with Doom and the circle starts forming on the ground, run out of the circle.
The quest ends here. You’ll get The Eye of the Warrior accessory.
Report back to Mid
After the second sub-quest, return to Mid at her workshop.
Speak with Harpocrates
You will get another task from Mid. Speak with Harpocrates to get his advice.
Now, choose between Jill or Tarja for the mission.
Letting Off Steam 3
The third sub-quest begins here. Make your way to Northreach.
This is another relaxing quest where you just need to buy stuff.
Purchase garlic and pepio nuts from two different merchants.
Return to Jill after gathering the materials.
This is where you get to watch a cutscene between Clive and the lady you brought for the quest.
Return to Harpocrates after.
This sub-quest ends here.
Report back to Mid
Go back to Mid again.
She’ll now be able to construct a part of her new ship.
Speak with Otto
Talk to Otto before leaving.
Make for the foredeck.
Visit the old hideaway
Now, go back to the old hideaway to visit Cid’s grave.
Make for Boklad
Finally, go to Boklad via the world map.
The quest ends when you reach the area.
