Holding On is a main quest available in Final Fantasy XVI.
Your objective is to make your way to Eastpool and eventually to Phoenix Gate.
Here’s a walkthrough of Holding On in Final Fantasy 16.
Make for Eastpool
After you’re done with Martha’s Rest, head north to Eastpool using the newly repaired bridge.
The location is marked in the map below.
On the way there, you’ll be able to slay monsters to earn XP and gather materials.
Once you’re done, head to Eastpool.
You will meet Lady Hanna who is the wife of Commander Murdoch who died 13 years prior.
After the cutscenes, Clive will have obtained new gear including the Invictus sword.
Make for Phoenix Gate
Next, head northwest to Phoenix Gate as marked in the map.
Before you can leave the town, the mayor will stop you and ask for a favor.
Back In The Day sub-quest
You will have to do a sub-quest first titled Back in the Day.
Head to the well to look for an old man who is a Bearer.
As he’s not around, ask the lady nearby on his whereabouts.
Then, talk to the man sweeping the ground below.
Next, head to the stables to ask the man who knows the Bearer.
Continue to head south to the quest marker shown in the map below.
Keep going and you’ll see the old man at the cliff.
Slay the enemies first.
The sub-quest completes after the cutscene.
Make for Phoenix Gate again
After completing the sub-quest, make your way to Phoenix Gate.
You’ll have to walk through the Deadlands but there are no enemies here.
Explore the ruins of Phoenix Gate
Finally, you’ll be able to fast travel to Phoenix Gate using the world map.
The quest ends after you reach the ruins.
