Altcoins are in a bit of a dip recently (January) and it seems to be the trend every year for the past few years. Past performance is not a guarantee of future prices but it’s not to be discounted totally.
Hopefully we’ll see green in the later parts of 2018, but for now, here are some altcoins to check out in February this year.
Disclaimer: This is merely my opinion and is not to be taken as an investment or financial advice. Always invest what you can afford to lose and do your own research.
1. Steem
I always recommend Steem as the number 1 crypto for a good reason, i.e. it’s fast with zero fees and has a huge user base on Steemit. Sure, it’s nowhere near mainstream social media platforms, but it will get there someday. I hope. The best part about Steem is that users are the ones doing the marketing. The fact that you can make Steem on the platform by blogging or other content creation efforts is amazing. It draws people in without much promotion, to be honest.
Furthermore, Steemit Inc. has yet to release the Smart Media Tokens that may be a huge game changer for Steem as a blockchain. Hopefully that happens soon enough. I believe it’s still undervalued and has a good potential to go up, but that’s just me.
2. Ark
Ark is sort of an ecosystem that aims to connect all blockchains via a SmartBridge technology. They have huge ambitions and a pretty solid team, and they may pull it off someday. Till then, I’m just holding on to my Ark.
So far all they have is a good wallet, and there are many features still in the works. It’s more of a long term coin for me.
3. Substratum
Substratum aims to decentralize the internet as a whole. This means almost zero censorship on the internet and it can’t be blocked by the government.
It uses smart nodes, meaning individuals collectively host nodes to keep the internet alive. In return, they get paid for doing so, in the form of SUB tokens. As there is an incentive, it might actually work. There are plenty of people who wish to have a censorship free internet. There are its disadvantages as well, but everything good comes with a price.
4. BAT
Basic Attention Token aims to change the world of display advertising on the internet. Instead of using the regular display ads you see everywhere, they want to incentivize watching ads by giving out BAT tokens.
They created a Brave browser which is purportedly many times faster than the current browsers, e.g. Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox. Move away Internet Explorer, you’re not even in the running!
5. IOTA
IOTA has dropped almost half in value recently but I’m hoping to see a rebound soon. All it takes is some good news and the market goes insane.
They have been linked to Microsoft on some partnership deals and they’re currently partners with Bosch and other companies (if I’m not mistaken). They are one of the few cryptos that is not based on blockchain, but another tech called Tangle.
In a nutshell
Hopefully we’ll start to see altcoins going up in February, perhaps at the later part of the month. I’m holding some of these coins so I may be biased.
