What Lead Magnet Should You Offer To Get People To Subscribe?

Last updated on December 19, 2019 by Alvin L

If you have done your research on how to grow your list of subscribers, I’m sure lead magnet is a familiar term for you.

For those who are not familiar, a lead magnet is like a bribe to get people to subscribe to your blog. It’s not easy to get the email address of strangers especially if they have no incentive to give it away. Hence, create an incentive for them. Always have a lead magnet. In the past when I didn’t have one, I had no subscribers for most days.

There are tons of lead magnet ideas in Google and I won’t mention all of them again but I’ll concentrate on a few that I personally like.

Read on if you need ideas on how to “bribe” people to give up their emails!

What Lead Magnet Should You Offer To Get People To Subscribe

1. Free ebook

This one is probably one of the most common lead magnets out there. Give away a free ebook that is related to your niche and people may subscribe.

I personally offered a free ebook on “12 ways to make money blogging”, “how I gained 2000 visitors in just 3 hours” and also “how to gain 5,000 followers on Instagram in one month”. I no longer advertise those but I’m still giving them away for free for those who subscribe for my email course.

In other words, I’ve changed my lead magnet from an ebook to a free email course.

I like giving away ebooks because they are easier to create compared to a course. Think of it as a more comprehensive version of your blog posts, or a combination of your blog posts in an organized manner.

Some of you guys may feel that it’s a daunting task but it actually isn’t. Take your time to write a little each day and you’ll complete it eventually.

I received quite a number of subscribers from my free ebooks so I know it works.

2. A free email course

Providing a free email course is my current lead magnet and it has gotten me new subscribers each day. An email course takes more time to create but it works as well.

Furthermore, it’s more targeted so it may work as a sales funnel as well. Some bloggers I know tend to have upsells in their course and that’s how they make money. I personally don’t have one in my free email course but at the very least I do have some affiliate links there.

The subscribers you gained from your email course will be more targeted as they’re obviously interested in your niche. I’m still experimenting with this so I can’t say for sure if this is the best way to gain subscribers.

3. Income reports

I noticed some bloggers using income reports to attract subscribers. Basically they will only publish their income reports via email so you are required to subscribe to see how much this blogger is earning.

I haven’t tried this before but it seems to be an interesting tactic. Personally, I don’t believe most income reports unless I see proof of the income.

That said, income reports as a lead magnet may actually work so do experiment with this.

4. Exclusive tips not published on your blog

Another way to get people to subscribe is to promise them exclusive and unpublished tips on your blog. This may work if you’re running a “how to” type of blog.

For instance, if you run a blog on making money online, you can give them tips that aren’t already on your blog. Reserve some hidden secrets for your email subscribers.

That would get them intrigued and want to subscribe to your blog.

5. Free printables

I never tried offering printables before but they seem to be a favorite among lifestyle or craft bloggers.

It can be any kind of printable as long as it fits your niche. You can have daily planners, meal planner, coloring books, study planner and so on.

As long as it fits your niche it should work.

Some even offer a printable on a promotion schedule, i.e. the exact time to promote your blog posts and where to do so.

In a nutshell

There are so many different ideas on creating a lead magnet and you can even Google them online. I’ve probably seen over a hundred of them.

Ultimately, you have to experiment with different lead magnets and see which one works the best for you. It also depends on your blog niche. For instance, it doesn’t make much sense to offer a free email course if you run a travel blog.

Hence, do experiment with different lead magnets and good luck to you!

One thing for sure is that you’ll need a lead magnet to get more subscribers these days.

Thanks again for reading and do check out my free email course!
