At the start of Days Gone, you’ll probably only have a measly pistol, a boot knife and Boozer’s shotgun.
As the story progresses, you’ll have access to better guns that are also required for harder threats.
Here’s how you can get the best weapons in Days Gone.
Note: There may be spoilers ahead.
Loot from enemies
The most straightforward game in getting new guns early on in the game is by looting.
Your enemies (marauders, anarchists, squatters or even Rippers) may drop all types of guns.
They typically drop rifles and shotguns, and you can loot it from them first.
The downside to picking up these guns is that you can’t keep them in the gun locker.
Only guns that you buy can be kept in the locker. That being said, they are helpful at the start of the game.
Buy guns from merchants
The number one way to get the best weapons in the game is by buying them from merchants in camps. To buy better weapons, you need to slowly increase your trust in the camp, via missions and side missions. Each camp has trust levels, from 0 to 3. At trust level 3, you can buy all the weapons in that particular camp if you have the credits.
You will be introduced to a couple of camps in the entire duration of the game, and each camp may have different weapons.
The ones in the later part of the story sells the most powerful weapons. An example would be this .50 BFG (image below) that is available at the merchant late in the story.
It has an almost perfect damage, accuracy, penetration, range and stopping power. It kills most enemies in one shot.
The condition of the weapon is also great, i.e. tier 5 – special forces condition. Unfortunately, this is only end game stuff.
At Copeland’s Camp, they probably don’t sell any weapons. You need to unlock Hot Springs first via the story as they sell some of the better weapons in the beginning.
There’ll also be the Lost Lake camp as you progress further if you need other weapons (but rather similar). You’ll find better weapons after Lost Lake as well.
As for the best sidearms, you should get either the SMP9 or the PDW as they come with many bullets and are handy for horde battles.
For explosives like grenades, you can buy them in shops later. As for higher end napalm molotovs, they will be unlocked closer towards the end as well.
Take on hordes
Another way to get a couple of weapons is by taking on hordes. This only applies in the end game if not mistaken.
After almost completing the game, you’ll get a map to all the horde locations. The more hordes you clear, the more weapons you unlock.
After clearing 10% of the hordes, you’ll get an SMP9 sidearm in your locker. You’ll get other weapons as you clear more hordes.
The SMP9 is really useful for horde battles, as it has many bullets and the damage is slightly higher than the regular pistol.
In a nutshell
The best way to get weapons in Days Gone is by buying them from camps. You’ll get better weapons as you progress further.
Hence, you should try to increase the trust level of the camp selling the weapons, to unlock better tier weapons.
The higher the trust, the stronger the weapons that can be purchased.
