Ghost type Pokemon are highly effective against other ghost Pokemon and psychic types.
They aren’t as common as some other types, like water, fire and grass type Pokemon.
Nevertheless, they should be good additions to your squad.
Here are some of the best ghost Pokemon in all generations.
1. Giratina
First on the list is Giratina, a dragon and ghost legendary Pokemon from the 4th generation. It is part of the Sinnoh trio alongside Palkia and Dialga.
Giratina is obviously one of the strongest Pokemon, not just as a ghost type. It is capable of time travel and controlling dimensions, just like the other two in the trio can do. Furthermore, it was said to have been banished due to its violent nature.
Giratina has really high overall base stats, with HP being its best attribute among all.
2. Gengar
Gengar is the icon and is one of the best ghost type Pokemon, originating from the 1st generation. It’s the evolved form of Haunter and can further evolve into Mega Gengar.
This Pokemon has exceptional stealth as it can hide in the shadow of any object. It also absorbs heat around it and reduces the temperature of the area. As a ghost Pokemon, Gengar can also possess people and Pokemon, or even fly in the air.
Gengar has overall decent base stats, with special attack and speed as its best attributes. When it turns into Mega Gengar, its special attack goes up insanely high.
3. Banette
Next up is Banette, a pure ghost Pokemon from the 3rd generation. It is the evolved form of Shuppet and can further mega evolve into Mega Banette.
It has a unique zipped mouth that stores its energy. If it is unzipped, it loses the energy. Furthermore, it is sort of like a ghost soft toy, where if you care for it enough, it will turn back into a stuffed toy. One interesting trait about Banette is that it curses even its trainer when it mega evolves (due to having too much energy).
Banette has overall okay base stats with attack being its best. When it mega evolves, its attack becomes really high, although the other stats are still decent or low.
4. Chandelure
Chandelure as the name suggests, resembles a chandelier. It is a fire and ghost type Pokemon from the 5th generation, and is the evolved form of Lampent.
The fires on Chandelure are purplish in color but the fires do not physically burn the victims. They instead burn the spirit of victims and this Pokemon can even absorb the spirit of the victim.
Chandelure has overall okay stats, but it does have a really high special attack attribute.
5. Dusknoir
Next on the list of best ghost type Pokemon is Dusknoir. This Pokemon is a ghost type from the 4th generation and is the evolved form of Dusclops.
It sort of resembles a cyclops as it only has one eye. Dusknoir also has antenna on its head that receives transmissions from the spirit world.
This Pokemon has overall decent base stats, and its defense and special defense tops the rest.
6. Aegislash
Aegislash is both a steel and ghost Pokemon from the 6th generation. It is the evolved form of Doublade and it has a unique ability of changing forms when it battles.
Aegislash looks like a shield and a sword, and it changes its stance during battle according to which moves it chooses to use, e.g. defensive or offensive. This Pokemon is also said to have served many generations of kings.
It has overall low stats, but its defense and special defense are really high when it is using the defensive formation. Likewise, its attack and special attack goes up really high when it’s on the offensive.
7. Froslass
Froslass is also a 4th generation Pokemon and is both an ice and ghost type. This Pokemon is the evolved form of Snorunt when it uses a Dawn Stone.
It looks like a human-like creature that wears a kimono and it floats in the air. Froslass has the ability to use a freezing breath which leaves its opponents frozen. It can also create illusions in manipulating others, as witnessed in the cartoon.
This Pokemon has overall decent base stats, with speed as its best attribute among the rest.
8. Jellicent
Next up is Jellicent, a Pokemon that resembles a jelly fish. It is both a water and ghost type from the 5th generation and is the evolved form of Frillish.
The male version is blue in color while the female version is pink in color. They can absorb seawater to propel themselves to move forward. As a ghost Pokemon, they are known to feed on life energy and anyone who wanders near their dwelling place is never to be found again.
