Early Life
Simon’s full name is Simon Maxwell Helberg and he was born in LA, on the 9th of December, 1980. His father is Sandy Halberg, an actor and his mother is Harriet Helbert, a casting director.
As a child, he was raised in Judaism but was leaning towards Reform as time passes by. Simon Helberg schooled in Crossroads School in Santa Monica with another celebrity Jason Ritter. Jason was also his roommate at NYU.
Simon attended NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts and trained at the Atlantic Theater Company.
Career
Simon began in the early 2000s as he performed in a sketch comedy duo Derek & Simon, with fellow comedian Derek. They also created a web series of the same name in 2007.
Two short films were also made based on Derek & Simon, which featured stars like Zach Galifianakis, Bill Hader, Casey Wilson and Emily Rutherfurd. He also joined the cast of MADtv briefly in 2002.
In the same year, Simon appeared in the film Van Wilder as one of the geeks and also appeared in Old School in 2003. The next year, he landed two episodes in Reno 911!.
In 2004, Simon appeared in A Cinderella Story which starred Hilary Duff and Chad Michael Murray.
In 2005, Simon played a minor role in Good Night, and Good Luck which was a George Clooney film, and had only one line in the film. He also had a small part in Arrested Development in the same year.
