Early Life

Sean Astin was born on the 25th of February 1971 in Santa Monica, California. His mother was also an actress. Sean’s biological father is Michael Tell but his father left before he was even born.

He grew up being raised by his mother and John Astin the initial years, but his mother remarried to Mike Pearce.

Sean Astin is of German, Irish, Austrian-Jewish and Polish-Jewish ancestry. He schooled at Crossroads High School for the arts and later attended the Stella Alder Conservatory. Sean later graduated from UCLA.


Career

His career began in 1981 with a television movie Please Don’t Hit Me, Mom. He then joined the cast of The Goonies in 1985. Since then, he acted in Like Father Like Son, White Water Summer (with Kevin Bacon), Memphis Belle and Toy Soldiers.

Sean Astin’s breakthrough came in the 2000s when he was cast as Samwise Gangee in The Lord of the Rings – The Fellowship of the Ring. He reprised his role as Samwise Gangee in the sequels The Two Towers and The Return of the King, and acted alongside Elijah Wood, Dominic Monaghan, Billy Boyd and many others.

During his time with the trilogy, he won many awards together with the cast, including at the Academy Awards and the Saturn Awards.

After LoTR, he had more movies and TV shows. He acted with Adam Sandler in Click and 50 First Dates. He continued to get roles in Smile, 24, Hercules, The Colour of Magic, Monk, Las Vegas, Law & Order, Angel and Jeremiah.

Sean also did voice acting and worked on the video game Kingdom Hearts and also Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles on Nickelodeon.

Since then, he continues to act and has appeared in shows like Woodlawn, Stranger Things (with Millie Bobby Brown, Gaten Matarazzo & Finn Wolfhard), The Big Bang Theory (with Jim Parsons and Johnny Galecki), and Supergirl.
