Early Life
Roman Reigns was born on the 25th of May, 1985. His real name is Leati Joseph Anoa’i and belongs to the Anoa’i family.
This family is home to many pro wrestlers like Rikishi, Umaga, Yokozuna, The Tonga Kid and The Rock (but non-biological).
Roman Reigns is both Italian and Samoan.
Career
Football
Anoa’i started his career in football rather than wrestling and he was at the Pensacola Catholic High School for three years. Roman Reigns also schooled for a year at Escambia High School.
Later, he went to the Georgia Institute of Technology and joined their football team. His teammate was Calvin Johnson, an NFL player.
During his time there, he was named to the first team of the All-Atlantis Coast Conference. In 2007, he was signed by Minnesota Vikings. However, he was diagnosed with leukemia not long after.
In August that year, he joined Jacksonville Jaguars instead but was released right before the NFL 2007 season.
In 2008, he joined Edmonton Eskimos of the Canadian Football League and played for a season. By the end of the year, he was released and retired from football.
WWE Career
In 2010, he was signed by WWE and finally began his professional wrestling career. He initially reported to the developmental territory Florida Championship Wrestling (FCW). His debut name was Roman Leakee.
In 2012, WWE rebranded FCW to NXT. His new ring name became Roman Reigns, which is the name he is known for now. His character had a villain persona and debuted defeating CJ Parker.
Together with Dean Ambrose and Seth Rollins, they established themselves as villains and called themselves The Shield.
Roman Reigns began the singles competition in 2014 when the trio was disbanded. It was when he really flourished in the WWE, picking up many championships.
Reigns has won the WWE World Championship 3 times and the Universal Championship 1 time. He has also won the WWE Tag Team Championship with Rollins and also tied the record for most eliminations in a Survivor Series match.
Roman Reigns is now the 28th Triple Crown Champion and the 17th Grand Slam Champion.
