Pouring Forth Oil is a rather long mission in Red Dead Redemption 2 as it has four chapters.
Your gang aims to steal money from rich people on a train, and in order to do so, you need an oil wagon first (to stop the train).
Here’s a walkthrough of all the chapters of Pouring Forth Oil in RDR 2.
To start this mission, go to John Marston in camp (Horseshoe Overlook). Talk to him and he will mention a train that you’re planning to rob.
He gives an idea of using an oil wagon to stop the train, which is why you need an oil wagon.
Steal an oil wagon
There are oil wagons at Heartland Oil Fields and if not mistaken, they’re always there. That being said, this place is guarded tightly during the day.
You will see guards standing all around the place. You have to come at night if you wish to steal their oil wagon.
An alternative is the oil wagon at Valentine. Though not always in the map, if it appears, it’s so much easier.
You can just steal the oil wagon in broad daylight and no one is outside to guard it.
Take the oil wagon and bring it to the destination. There may be one guard that will come out to shoot at you but he won’t chase you.
Take the oil wagon to the destination
The destination is shown in the map below. It’s not too far, but try to ride it safely. It’s highly flammable so you do not want people shooting at it.
You will see this broken down shack when you reach the destination. Just leave the oil wagon there.
And that’s it. You’re done for this part. This should have been Chapter 2 of Pouring Forth Oil.
I’m not certain but I don’t remember doing anything else, unless saving Bill was part of it.
Apparently if you don’t steal the oil wagon, your friend will do it for you later. Not sure about it but that’s what I’ve heard.
Pouring Forth Oil – III
For the third part, you have to talk to John again, and he is back in camp.
The plan now is to meet at the oil wagon to prepare for the actual train heist.
Pouring Forth Oil – IV
For the last chapter, you need to meet John Marston and Charles at the destination where you left the oil wagon.
Upon reaching, you should see Sean there instead. Just watch the cutscene.
The other two will arrive during the cutscene and all four of you will go to the train tracks.
You will be controlling the oil wagon with three others hanging by.
Get to the railroad crossing
Go to the railroad crossing. The exact location is shown in the map below.
When you’re there, park the oil wagon right on the train tracks. Arthur will then stand on the oil wagon ensuring that the train stops.
Once the train stops, kill the guards that come out. Your companions might kill them as well.
Go to the yellow marker on the radar and get on the train.
Steal money from the passengers
Your only job now is to follow your friend and extort money from passengers. They are all rich people and should give you quite a bit of money.
If they don’t give anything, beat them up.
Just go through all of the carriages and you’re done for this part.
Next, get to the front of the train and steal some items from the baggage car.
You should loot as fast as possible here, because you will be interrupted pretty soon.
The lawmen will arrive pretty quickly.
Get rid of all of them. They will be coming from the right, and later from the left.
Once you’re done, take your horses and your companions will follow you.
Escape the law
Your only job now is to escape the law. The lawmen will chase after you guys in horses. Keep galloping until you’ve escaped totally.
And that’s it. The mission completes here.
If you wish to get a perfect score, you need to fulfill all of the items in the checklist:
- Kill all the train guards before Sean fires a shot
- Clear the baggage car of loot
- Escape the law within 1 minute 30 seconds
- Get 10 kills in dead eye
- Complete the mission without taking health items
