Hey guys, I recently stumbled upon this platform called Uplive, which is supposed to be a platform created in China. It’s similar to Bigo live, and it’s a platform that allows people to do live streaming and get paid.
I never done any streaming myself, just watched others on the platform. Came across it on an advertisement actually.
Basically streamers have a sort of contract with the platform and they get paid for streaming a certain number of hours a month. I guess the more popular you are, the more the platform pays. Basically all they do is chat and stuff, or play music. It’s like Twitch without the gaming. No adult rated stuff is permitted on Uplive.
Then they can also earn commission from uCoins. uCoins are the internal currency and basically you can reward streamers with virtual gifts. You’ll have to purchase “diamonds” with your fiat money and about $16 is worth 490 diamonds. These diamonds have a 1 to 1 exchange rate with uCoins.
So if you buy a gift worth 100 diamonds, they’ll get 100 uCoins. However, the platform takes a big portion of it when the streamer cashes out. That’s how they earn i guess. Maybe instead of getting $400 for 10,000 coins, they might get about $100.
From my observation, only the popular ones will be making quite a lot of money from the platform. The popular ones are those who are really good looking, sort of like Instagram. So if you don’t have a “rich” fan base, it will be hard to make a living from it. I guess it’s similar to Steem in that sense. You need whale friends / initiatives to make a living out of Steem.
Some of the more popular streamers received a few million uCoins this month, which means they can probably cash out more than $10,000 from commissions alone. I wonder how much they’re contractually paid.
One really interesting finding is that Uplive is actually connected to the ICO Gifto! I had no clue before this, but they’re changing their reward system to be based on crypto instead. They’re probably expanding as well, into all kinds of different areas with the new rewards system.
It’s not up yet, so we’ll have to wait and see what happens next.
Thanks for reading.
