Pinterest can be a game changer for your blog, both for new and old blogs. The question that came to my mind early on is, how many times should I pin a day on Pinterest?
This question was and still is one of my biggest headaches with Pinterest.
I’ve seen Pinterest experts who claim that they are getting crazy amounts of traffic from Pinterest.
I have not found that kind of success yet but I’m on my way. Who doesn’t want free traffic from Pinterest?
Hence, I’ve tried different pinning frequencies over the past two to three months.
There are several considerations that you might want to take into account in deciding your pinning frequency.

1. How many group boards are you in as a contributor?
Personally, I think that group boards are one of the most important things in gaining traffic from Pinterest.
It’s the only way (Tailwind aside) to actually get noticed if you have zero followers. Joining group boards alone doesn’t cut it.
You have to be accepted as a contributor to a group board. Each group board has different rules in joining as a contributor.
There is no “Apply” button, so you may have to email the owner of the board.
Generally speaking, group boards is crucial to the question of “how many times should I pin a day”. The more group boards you are in, the more frequent you can pin a day.
This is of course dependent on my second point below.
2. How often do people pin onto those group boards?
If your group boards are pretty inactive, pinning too often may seem spammy. You may get removed from those boards for spam.
Hence, you have to join big boards relevant to your niche if you wish to pin more times a day.
By big boards, I mean boards with lots of contributors that are pinning quite often.
Some boards have new pins every minute. You may need to pin more often in those boards to actually get noticed.
This doesn’t mean that big boards are automatically the best. Choose those with the best re-pin rate.
You can use Pingroupie to look for relevant boards with a high re-pin rate.
3. Are you pinning manually?
This one’s not a biggie. It’s more of a personal preference.
If you’re pinning manually, it’s tiring to pin many times a day.
To make my life easier, I actually use Tailwind to schedule my pins each day.
There are people who claim that pinning manually brings better results. I don’t think it’s true.
Scheduling tools are supposed to work in the sense that it looks as though you are pinning it manually.
So how many times should I pin a day on Pinterest?
So far, I’ve tried pinning:
- Below 30 times a day
- 30 – 50 times a day
- 50 – 75 times a day
- 75 – 100 times a day
What I’ve discovered for myself is that pinning 75 – 100 times a day actually brought me more traffic consistently.
I do note that pinning more than 50 times a day may lead to a reduction in engagement as shown in this article by Tailwind.
Many blog posts I’ve read from Google do claim that pinning less than 30 times is actually optimal.
I don’t really disagree with them as they have provided data to support their claim.
However, it didn’t really work for me. I was getting much lesser traffic when I pinned less.
Maybe it’s a long-term thing.
Different pinners have gotten different results. Recently, some of the bloggers in Facebook groups claimed that pinning 75 times and above is actually better.
Based on these observations, the answer to whether you should pin 15 times a day or 100 times a day differs!
Ultimately, you need to give yourself a time period and try pinning with a different frequency. Pinning less may actually work for you.
I believe that the answer to “how many times should I pin a day?” is very much dependent on the amount of group boards you’re in as a contributor.
The more group boards (active) you’re in, the more often you can pin.
If you’re not in group boards yet, you’re missing lots of traffic!
Join as many group boards that are relevant to your niche as you can.
