Hey guys, today’s blog post will not be a tutorial on how to drive traffic or make money online.
To be honest, churning out articles on how to make money or blogging tips for newbies like me is not easy as it requires a lot of research and at least some experience.
I’ll take a breather for today as today’s topic is about the Blogger Recognition Award!
I was nominated by Zoey in her article for this award! Thanks Zoey! It means a lot to be nominated as I feel that my blog posts do not go to waste. The most discouraging thing most bloggers face is having no readers. Hence, getting acknowledged is actually quite an honor and a boost of motivation.
What is this award about?
It’s not an “actual” award but it’s a fun thing to do between bloggers. The concept is similar with the Liebster’s Award where you nominate a blog that you like.
What kind of benefit can arise from such an award?
- You may get to build stronger bonds with other bloggers that may actually help you in the future.
- You’ll probably get a backlink from the other blog and who knows, it may be a valuable backlink after all. Backlinks form quite a big part in SEO.
- You get encouraged to continue blogging.
What are the rules of this award?
- Write a blog post about this award.
- Thank the blogger that nominated me.
- Write a brief story of how/why I started blogging.
- Give two pieces of advice to new bloggers.
- Nominate another blogger to pass the award onto.
How / Why I Started Blogging
I started my first blog many years ago, back when I was still in secondary school (almost 10 years ago). It was a free blog on Blogger and I kinda enjoyed blogging about the food I ate. Needless to say, the pictures I uploaded on the blog was badly taken, my writing was pretty atrocious and my blog’s design was appalling. I stopped not long after as I had almost zero traffic!
I wasn’t aware that it was that bad in the past. I had other blogs as well, in between this blog and my first blog. What they definitely taught me is that you need to provide value to others if you want your blog to succeed. I had no intention of monetizing my blog in the past. Having said that, I hope to monetize my current blog and one day earn a living from it. As you grow older, you realize that money is really important to survive and that most people don’t really care about you. It’s a dog-eat-dog world. I’m still struggling to succeed but I know I won’t give up anytime soon.
Two Pieces Of Advice To New Bloggers (at least to those newer than me)
There are so many things that new bloggers have to learn and deal with. You definitely can’t compress them into just two points. If I had to choose two, I would choose patience and active learning.
Blogging is really a long-term effort and you definitely can’t expect to get loads of traffic or make decent money from the start. As a general rule, if you blog consistently for 6 months and remember to apply SEO for all of your posts. you should see some positive results. Of course, some bloggers are exceptional and they start generating lots of traffic much faster than the rest. There are also those who have not even broken the “100 views a day” mark. Hence, it’s not equal for everyone.
2. Active Learning
What this basically means is that you should keep learning on the many aspects of blogging:
- SEO (This is huge)
- How to promote your blog (e.g. where can I promote)
- How to write content that would rank well (e.g. how many words should I write per article)
- Keyword research
- How to monetize your blog without losing your credibility
- Building your mailing list
- Writing blog titles that would attract visitors
- Best plugins for your blog
- Choosing the right hosting
- How to protect your blog from security threats
- Guest blogging
There is much more to it, but these are some that I can think of right off the bat.
I looked for nominees through a Facebook blogging community and I decided to nominate Nichole from Penny Problem Solved!
What I love about her blog is that I could easily tell what she blogs about, from her name to her very clear categories. I like the clean design and the way she writes as well!
I can also relate to her posts as our niches overlap, i.e. on making money online and blogging tips. I’ve seen her posts a couple of times probably on Pinterest as well and somehow her blog name is glued in my head.
Congrats Nichole and you have to nominate someone else (if you choose to participate)!
Thanks for reading guys.
